AppsForBharat's Sri Mandir serves 30M+ users across 30+ countries. Founded in 2020 by Prashant Sachan, an IIT Bombay alumnus who previously built Trell and worked on Cortana at Microsoft, the company exists to help people in India and abroad in their spiritual and devotional journeys.
Sri Mandir lets devotees book pujas at partner temples, offer chadhava, take daily darshan, and access a library of devotional content, with 3M+ services completed to date.
Since launching in 2021, the platform has expanded into global seva, pilgrimage planning through Sri Yatra, and astrology, on its way to becoming an end-to-end platform for the full spiritual journey.
The company is Series C, backed by Peak XV, Elevation, and Fundamentum, and is headquartered in Bangalore.
About the Role
As Engineering Manager, Backend at AppsForBharat, you will own backend engineering across Sri Mandir and new consumer apps.
You will lead architecture, delivery, and reliability at consumer scale. The role requires depth in Golang and Python, plus sound people leadership.
You will report to the VP of Engineering and partner with product, frontend, and data leaders.
What You'll Own
- Backend architecture. Define services, APIs, data models, and system boundaries across the portfolio.
- The backend rebuild. Lead the next phase of Sri Mandir's backend after the app revamp.
- Consumer-scale reliability. Keep transactional and behavioral systems stable under heavy traffic.
- End-to-end delivery. Scope with product, sequence the work, and carry releases into production.
- Engineering standards. Set expectations for design, code quality, testing, and observability.
- The backend team. Coach engineers, run appraisal cycles, and write code when the work needs it.
Signs You'll Be A Great Fit
- Built B2C backends at scale. You owned systems serving at least 150K daily active users.
- Shipped production Golang systems. You can explain the design choices and tradeoffs behind them.
- Worked hands-on in Python. You can review, debug, and contribute to production services.
- Designed distributed systems. You have defined APIs, interfaces, data models, HLDs, and LLDs.
- Owned a product end to end. You carried technical choices from product framing through production.
- Managed backend engineers. You have led teams, coached performance, and run appraisal cycles.
- Balanced speed and reliability. You can show how you protected foundations while meeting delivery needs.

The Opportunity
Cash compensation of ₹60L to ₹80L a year. Relocation support is available for immediate joiners. You report to the VP of Engineering and own backend engineering across Sri Mandir and new apps. The role gives you a consumer-scale backend charter at a Series C company.
