Engineering Manager

Hundreds of millions of Indians practice their faith daily, but the infrastructure serving that devotion has remained offline and fragmented for decades. AppsForBharat exists because that gap is solvable with technology, and because spiritual life deserves the same product quality as any other part of daily life.

Their flagship product, Sri Mandir, is a consumer app for Hindu devotees: daily pujas, chadhavas, darshan bookings, devotional content, and community, built for people who want to practice their faith on their own terms.

The company is Series C, backed by Peak XV Partners, Elevation Capital, Fundamentum, Susquehanna Asia VC, and BEENEXT, and led by Prashant Sachan, an IIT Bombay alum and serial entrepreneur who previously co-founded Trell.

As Engineering Manager, Backend at AppsForBharat, you will own the backend engineering pillar for Sri Mandir and the company's expanding product portfolio.

You will lead the backend team end to end: architecture decisions, delivery, system reliability, and the engineering practices the team runs on. The role asks for hands-on technical depth in Golang and Python alongside the judgment to manage people, set standards, and ship at consumer scale.

You will report to the VP of Engineering and work closely with product managers and the frontend and data engineering managers.

You step in as the third engineering manager pillar, owning backend completely as the company scales across multiple consumer products.

• Backend architecture and delivery. Own system design, HLD, LLD, and end-to-end delivery for backend services running at high consumer traffic volumes.
• Transactional and behavioral systems. Lead the build of payments, orders, and engagement-tracking systems that serve a large and growing user base.
• API and integration design. Define external system interfaces, API structures, and data contracts across the product stack.
• Engineering standards. Set and hold the bar on code quality, testing practices, and reliability across the backend team.
• The backend engineering team. Hire, develop, and run appraisal cycles for backend engineers; stay hands-on and code when the work calls for it.
• Cross-functional delivery. Partner with product managers to scope, prioritize, and ship B2C features across Sri Mandir and new products in the pipeline.

• Built backend systems at real consumer scale. You have shipped and operated systems serving hundreds of thousands of daily active users, with the traffic spikes that come with it.
• Hands-on in Golang and Python. You have built production systems in both; you can review code, unblock engineers, and write when the situation calls for it.
• Owned HLD and LLD end to end. You have designed distributed systems, defined API contracts, and can walk through your architectural decisions with precision.
• Managed engineers through full cycles. You have run appraisals, grown engineers, and led a team while staying technically credible yourself.
• Operated in a B2C or D2C product environment. Your experience is in consumer-first companies where traffic, retention, and user experience are the daily stakes.
• Balanced speed and system integrity. You have made the call between shipping fast and building right, and you can explain the reasoning behind each decision you took.
• Thrived in a high-agency, fast-moving team. You set direction, move without being pushed, and raise the standard of the people around you by working beside them.

• Get hands-on when it matters. Engineering managers here write code, review PRs, and sit with the team; leadership is demonstrated through the work.
• Move with urgency. The company is expanding across multiple products simultaneously; the pace is real and the team runs toward it.
• Design before you build. Every system starts with a clear HLD and LLD; architectural thinking is the foundation, not an afterthought.
• Own delivery end to end. Take a problem from scoping to shipped; handoffs are minimized and accountability is individual.
• Decide with the data you have. When evidence is thin, make the call, document the reasoning, and course-correct fast.
• Build in the room together. The team works five days a week from the Bengaluru office; alignment happens in person.

Cash compensation of ₹60L to ₹80L per year. Equity participation in a Series C company with strong investor backing. You report to the VP of Engineering and own the backend pillar across the full product portfolio. The role puts you at the center of building the technical foundation for a consumer platform serving tens of millions of users.
