The Story
Anuj joined Flipkart at a moment when it was still a single-category books website with no formal product function. As the first product manager, he had to build the discipline and the product simultaneously.
He started with the buyer experience end to end: product discovery, user engagement, conversion, and checkout. He redesigned and delivered the first modern, properly branded Flipkart experience, establishing a visual language and a customer-first UX strategy that could scale.
On discovery, he launched autosuggest, spell check, query builder, search across all categories, and recommendations, building the backend catalog data management processes needed to support them at scale.
On engagement, he shipped ratings, reviews, product comparison, wishlists, social connect, and community features, giving users the tools to research and decide with confidence.
On conversion, he launched an on-page shopping cart, refined the checkout flow, introduced instant cashback, and continuously optimized for a frictionless purchase experience.
He also built India's first mobile commerce site for Flipkart, a foundational move as mobile became the primary access point for Indian consumers.
Across his tenure, Flipkart grew many times over, expanding from books to over 100 product categories. The product infrastructure Anuj built became the foundation on which that growth ran.
