The Story
Yagini received a brief at Stride Ventures that was deliberately open-ended: pull together what the team had learned from its fintech conversations and see what could be drawn from it. There was no prescribed format, no target length, and no defined outcome.
The raw material was substantial. She had spoken to around 30 fintech companies covering the UK and Europe market. A colleague had spoken to a similar number, and the director of investments had spoken to hundreds more. Cumulatively, the team had working knowledge of roughly 200 fintech companies, but nothing consolidated.
Rather than organize the companies into a list, she structured the deck around a market narrative. The first slide gave a sharp, single-view lay of the land for UK and Europe fintech. The second identified the established players, such as Revolut, and mapped the gaps they were leaving. The third showed how new-age fintech companies the team had spoken to were filling those gaps, classified and grouped by what they were solving for.
The final section made the case for Stride's positioning: that new-age fintech companies have different capital needs from traditional borrowers, and that Stride was better placed than conventional lenders to serve them. The deck was designed for an LP audience, giving them a clear view of where the sector was going and why Stride was well-positioned within it.
The output was well-received internally and used as part of the LP engagement process.
