The Story

Vansh works as an Equity Research Associate at Insight Alpha, a platform that connects clients with primary research from industry professionals. His core responsibility is to conduct structured expert interviews across sectors and extract commercial insights that are not available through public sources or secondary research.

His preparation process is deliberate. Before each interview, he identifies the exact research objective, determines which assumptions need to be tested, and maps what information is unlikely to be available through public channels. He then researches the industry, the company, and the professional's background and prior roles. He builds a question framework covering market size, growth drivers, customer behavior, pricing, competition, operating economics, regulation, and future risks, structured from broad to specific.

During interviews, he does not follow the questionnaire mechanically. He listens for important themes, inconsistencies, and new information, and asks follow-up questions in real time. He distinguishes between what the expert has directly observed and what they are estimating or inferring, and probes for examples, ranges, and comparisons.

A Concrete Example: The Sweets Industry

In one recent interview, he spoke with a regional head who had operated a large sweets retail chain across South India. The research objective was to understand the economics of entering the organized sweets segment.

The most actionable insight was a margin framework for store viability: the professional shared specific thresholds for overhead salary and rent beyond which unit economics become unviable. Vansh also extracted insights on cost control, new market entry, quality maintenance, and employee retention in the segment.

After each interview, he analyzes the transcript in layers: identifying factual observations, estimates, opinions, and key quotations, then grouping findings into major themes and connecting them back to the original research question.
