The Story
Ujjwal was preparing for a US roadshow when a separate, time-critical mandate landed simultaneously: a consultation meeting for the Yashabhoomi complex bid, requiring a briefing memo for the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry ahead of a meeting with the CXOs of a large private equity real estate firm.
The memo needed to do two things. First, it had to walk the Joint Secretary through the bid documents and their key clauses. Second, it had to benchmark those terms against comparable geographies so the Joint Secretary could negotiate from an informed position rather than accepting the terms as presented.
Ujjwal's team at Invest India was three people: himself and two associates fresh out of college. There was no one to delegate the analytical depth to. He worked through the night, reviewing the bid documents, pulling comparable data, and drafting the memo in time for the morning meeting.
Both deliverables were met: the roadshow preparation continued on schedule, and the Joint Secretary went into the PE meeting with a clear, benchmarked brief.
