Uday was tasked by an MD at A&M to build a sector map of the US aerospace, defense, and aviation space from scratch, with the goal of identifying PE firms with portfolio companies in the sector that A&M could approach for consulting mandates.
The Story
Uday was tasked by an MD at A&M to build a sector map of the US aerospace, defense, and aviation space from scratch, with the goal of identifying PE firms with portfolio companies in the sector that A&M could approach for consulting mandates.
He pulled data from PitchBook, MergerMarket, and Capital IQ, then cleaned and structured it to map PE firms to their ADAS portfolio companies. He also conducted secondary research on PE firms based outside the US that held US ADAS assets, broadening the coverage beyond the obvious domestic players.
Once the dataset was assembled, he ran it through A&M's internal benchmarks to identify which firms met the threshold for outreach. The output fed directly into the firm's Salesforce pipeline and relationship mapping process, with Uday also supporting the preparation of pitches and proposals sent to target companies.
To share findings internally, he produced a deck that went to all ADAS-focused stakeholders at A&M, summarizing the sector map and the targeting rationale. The project also included expert interviews with professionals from a major US firm with a ventures arm, which added qualitative depth to the sector picture.
