The Story

Shubham first encountered Captain Fresh at Key Venture, where it passed his initial screening. When he moved to Veer Growth Fund, he recommended it for deeper evaluation and eventually participated in the investment process.

Captain Fresh operates as an intermediary between fishermen and B2B clients in the aquaculture supply chain. Shubham researched the sector thoroughly before engaging the founder, mapping the structural risks of seafood businesses: cold storage gaps, supply chain fragility, and the high failure rate of operators who could not manage perishability at scale.

He met the founder twice. In the first meeting, the founder was focused on the India business. By the second meeting, the strategic picture had shifted: US tariff pressure had made the India-only model less viable, and the founder had decided to pivot toward global markets, specifically targeting acquisitions in Europe rather than building from scratch in new geographies.

Shubham's assessment was not based on the founder's narrative alone. He looked at the execution track record. The founder had already completed five acquisitions across global markets, including Coral in Poland, a well-established tuna processor. The pattern of completed deals, not just the stated strategy, gave Shubham confidence that the pivot was executable.

He presented his findings to his managers in a thirty-minute call, walking through the founder's strategy, the sector dynamics that supported it, and the risks that could derail it. The fund invested at the pre-IPO stage. Captain Fresh has since closed around 1,000 crores in revenue within six years of operation.
