Overview

Shrey and his Mumbai colleagues own the J.P. Morgan global small and mid-cap flows publication from start to finish. The report tracks where institutional investors are moving money: which sectors they are rotating into and out of, whether they are preferring value or growth styles, which regions are attracting or losing flows, and how the top-performing funds are generating alpha relative to the average.

The Story

Shrey and his Mumbai colleagues own the J.P. Morgan global small and mid-cap flows publication from start to finish. The report tracks where institutional investors are moving money: which sectors they are rotating into and out of, whether they are preferring value or growth styles, which regions are attracting or losing flows, and how the top-performing funds are generating alpha relative to the average.

The team handles every stage of the cycle. Data is pulled from multiple external vendors, cleaned, and structured. The team then builds the charts that carry the analytical weight of the report, designing each visual to surface a specific insight rather than simply display a dataset. The write-up follows, with the team drafting the narrative and the senior analyst in Madrid reviewing and editing before publication.

The harder part of the work, in Shrey's view, is the storyboarding phase. The team starts with a view on what the flows data is showing, then builds charts that either support or challenge that view. When the charts push back, the narrative gets reframed around what the data actually says rather than what was initially expected. Shrey estimates this happens roughly thirty percent of the time, and those are the moments the team finds most instructive.

The publication goes to institutional investor clients who use it to understand market positioning and inform their own allocation decisions. Client queries come back after publication, and the team handles them by walking through the methodology and the data behind each chart.
