The Story
Shrey joined the J.P. Morgan Mumbai equity strategy team as the most junior member. The team was structured leanly: a senior analyst based in Madrid and three people in Mumbai, including Shrey and two more experienced colleagues.
In May of the prior year, both senior Mumbai team members left within weeks of each other. Shrey went from the most junior person on the team to the most senior in Mumbai within a month, with the flagship publications still on their regular schedule and no pause in delivery.
He managed the transition across two tracks simultaneously. On the research side, he maintained the full publication cycle, covering data gathering, analysis, charting, and writing across both the flagship market sentiment report and the flows publication. On the team side, he ran the hiring process, interviewing and selecting candidates, onboarding them, and training them on the team's methodology and workflow.
The senior analyst in Madrid monitored the transition closely. His assessment was that despite losing two analysts with three and five years of tenure respectively, there was no visible drop in the quality or continuity of the work. The juniors Shrey brought in are now up to speed and contributing to the publications.
