The Story
Samyukta joined InnoVen Capital, a Temasek-backed venture debt fund, as an Associate focused on the consumer pipeline. Her work spanned the full deal lifecycle: sourcing and evaluating companies, structuring debt terms, closing transactions, and managing portfolio operations post-close.
Over the course of her time at InnoVen, she closed $30 million in venture debt across three companies: a fine jewellery retailer with revenues above $200 million, an apparel brand with revenues above $25 million, and a data intelligence platform at the $8 million scale. Each deal required her to run diligence, negotiate terms, and then stay close to the portfolio company through the post-close period.
Managing a Pre-IPO Portfolio Relationship
One of the more complex situations she navigated was with a portfolio company that was preparing to go public. As a pre-IPO company, they were constrained in what financial information they could share with external parties, including their debt providers. At the same time, InnoVen needed sufficient visibility into the company's burn rate and business strategy to manage its own internal reporting and assess any future debt decisions.
Samyukta had built a working relationship with the company's finance and founding team before this tension arose, not transactionally, but through regular brainstorming calls and genuine engagement with their strategy. When the information constraints became a real issue, that relationship gave her a way through: the team was willing to share what they could, in a form that served InnoVen's reporting needs without exposing anything sensitive.
The experience reinforced a pattern she had already started to develop: building relationships before you need them is the only reliable way to navigate situations where authority alone won't get you what you need.
