The Story

In 2024, Parth began researching the battery energy storage system sector independently, prompted by a conversation with a friend. At the time, most market attention was on solar; BESS was a less-covered adjacent opportunity.

His initial hypothesis was that the value would concentrate in cell manufacturing, the most capital-intensive and technically complex part of the chain. He mapped the technology landscape in detail: vanadium redox flow batteries, sodium ion batteries, silicon carbon anodes, graphene and CNT additives, and nanotechnology applications in energy storage. He also segmented use cases, distinguishing between technologies suited for vehicle applications and those suited for stationary grid-scale deployments.

As the research deepened, his view shifted. The bottleneck was not which technology was best, but which could be manufactured at scale and at what cost. This realization moved his analytical focus from technology selection to industry structure: which part of the value chain was most likely to capture durable value over the long term, given commercialization timelines and competitive dynamics.

The study changed how he approaches emerging sectors. He now starts with economics and industry structure first, and evaluates technology second.
