The Story

Om Prakash set out to determine whether TVS Motor was undervalued and whether it represented a compelling long-term investment opportunity. Rather than opening a spreadsheet first, he began by building a thorough understanding of the business itself.

He studied the company's annual reports, investor presentations, and earnings call transcripts, then layered in industry reports to map the competitive landscape and understand TVS Motor's historical growth strategy. He benchmarked the company against Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp to identify where TVS was outperforming peers and where risks remained.

Once he had a clear picture of the business, he moved to the financials. He analyzed revenue growth, margins, return ratios, working capital efficiency, and capital allocation to identify the key value drivers. That analysis fed directly into an integrated financial model, from which he prepared a DCF, a sum-of-the-parts valuation, and a relative valuation.

He then stress-tested his assumptions across bull, base, and bear case scenarios to understand how changes in growth expectations and margins affected the valuation output. This was particularly relevant given the evolving EV competitive landscape: rather than extrapolating historical performance, he revisited his revenue model and scenario assumptions after following industry reports on electric vehicle adoption and competitive dynamics.

The final output was a structured research report combining industry analysis, financial modeling, valuation, and a clear buy recommendation supported by both qualitative and quantitative analysis. The report documented upside potential alongside key risks including competitive intensity, commodity price volatility, and execution risk.
