The Story

At Earlyseed Ventures, Nishanth was responsible for writing the investment memos that went out to angel investors as the first formal communication about a deal. The memos were the primary tool for converting investor interest into attendance at pitch events, where founders would present directly.

He developed a consistent structure for the memos. Each memo opened with the investment thesis for the sector, establishing why the space was worth attention before introducing the company. He then moved through a company overview, current and projected financials, a description of the product and services, and a breakdown of the investment terms, including the ask, valuation, equity structure, and round type.

Nishanth regularly had to push back on founder-provided numbers before the memos went out. Founders frequently submitted projections that were too optimistic, either because they were benchmarking against a hot sector or because they had not stress-tested their assumptions against conservative market conditions. He would work with them to rebuild the numbers, explaining how the market would read overly aggressive projections and what the downstream consequences would be for future fundraising credibility.

The memos he produced were effective at generating investor engagement, with angel investors who received them moving forward to attend pitch events with the founders.
