Overview

Midhun contributed to moving Amazon's electronic gift-card customer experience from a Perl-based framework to a Java-based framework. His work included frontend migration, traffic routing, feature controls, and performance monitoring.

The Story

Midhun joined Amazon's electronic gift-card experience as the team migrated customer-facing pages from a Perl-based framework to a Java-based framework.

The work required more than moving frontend code. Traffic had to move to the new pages in a controlled way, with routing rules and the ability to switch back if a rollout needed correction.

He tracked rollout quality through performance signals including initial page load, Largest Contentful Paint, Time to Interactive, and above-the-fold behavior. These signals helped the team assess the new experience as traffic moved.

The project gave him direct exposure to the discipline required for large-scale migrations: planning paths, preserving rollback options, and monitoring the customer experience during change.
