The Story
At REHAU New Ventures, Kanav worked on portfolio management and investor relations, supporting portfolio startups with fundraising and investor communications. One of his core workstreams was building a standardized KPI framework across the portfolio.
The initial framework he designed did not work equally well for every portfolio company. Some founders felt that the common metrics did not reflect their business model or stage, and pushed back on the template.
Rather than forcing one template across the portfolio, Kanav kept a core set of comparable portfolio KPIs and added company-specific metrics alongside them. He clarified definitions directly with founders so that reporting remained consistent without losing relevance to each company's actual situation.
The result was a framework that allowed the investment team to compare performance across the portfolio while giving each founder a reporting structure that reflected their business.
