Overview

Kabilan managed fraud decisioning across more than 10 international markets at American Express. He helped integrate behavioral signals from BioCatch, contributing to a 25% improvement in fraud prediction accuracy and $5M+ in fraud-loss prevention.

The Story

Kabilan managed American Express's fraud decisioning product across international markets, where a shared platform needed to accommodate country-specific rules, fraud checks, and regulatory requirements. The work connected central orchestration, digital channels, credit and fraud strategy, decision sciences, data engineering, DevOps, and external vendors.

He prioritized privacy, security, and compliance requirements first, followed by committed market launches and model improvements. The operating model made cross-functional dependencies explicit through program increments, allowing teams to commit jointly to releases.

Kabilan helped evaluate behavioral-data vendors on cost per application, integration effort, security and compliance, scale, and the quality of their outputs. BioCatch was selected after comparative evaluation of its behavioral signals and vendor track record.

He led work to incorporate behavioral patterns alongside existing device, IP, KYC, bureau, and security signals. The platform could then use how applicants interacted with forms as an additional input to fraud prediction.

Across several program increments, Kabilan supported model upgrades, data-source expansion, and market releases. The work improved fraud prediction accuracy by 25% and helped prevent more than $5M in fraud losses.
