Overview

Kabilan helped build SourceSmart from an early concept into a retail sourcing product. He anchored the MVP on a configurable optimization engine, then helped turn client demand into $5M in additional revenue.

The Story

Kabilan took on SourceSmart when Impact Analytics had retailer interest and a small pipeline, but no product in place. The work required a usable sourcing product that could serve varied retailer workflows without committing the team to features it could not deliver in phase one.

He paired secondary research with input from a sourcing SME and client design sessions. He entered those sessions with candidate solutions, then used the conversations to distinguish essential workflow needs from items that could be added later.

Kabilan made the central product call to build the optimization core before investing heavily in the user interface. He defined the data grain so the system could optimize at a lower product hierarchy and roll results up for different client needs.

He also shaped the integration with Gurobi and used a Python-based setup to run simulations. That gave the team a working way to test constraints around supplier diversification, capacity, tariffs, and sourcing goals before broadening the experience.

The MVP established the product's core value and created a base for implementation and customer success. SourceSmart now generates $5M in additional revenue.
