The Story

Jaswanth was given ownership of a data quality project covering approximately 250,000 client records at Deloitte. The brief was to find where redundant data was affecting downstream platforms and build a more reliable validation process.

He started by investigating root causes rather than just cleaning records. He applied rule-based workflow validations as part of the ETL process, identifying where duplicates were entering the system and why.

At the same time, he was running a parallel project: building market intelligence using government registries, D&B, Whois, PitchBook, and EDGAR. Initially, the two projects appeared unrelated. But as he moved forward, he found a connection.

The market intelligence work revealed that a significant number of new consumer companies were being added as clients. He used that insight to pinpoint where redundant records were most likely to appear in the data quality project, focusing his deduplication effort on the consumer segment first.

He presented the trend to his team lead, who passed it to the broader team. The team adjusted its intake process to prepare for more consumer-related companies in the coming weeks, and the prediction proved accurate.
