The Story

Govind was tasked by a managing director at a prominent New York investment banking firm with producing market research reports on the consumer and confectionary sector. The brief was typically a single topic, such as the confectionary market in India or the UK, with no further structure provided.

He began each project by thinking through what the client actually needed to decide, not just what the data said. His framing question was always investment-oriented: why would an investor want to enter this market, what are the key opportunities, and what does the growth trajectory suggest about timing.

From there, he conducted desktop research across Google, ScienceDirect, and other available sources, synthesizing more than 200 articles and third-party reports across his time in the role. He built each report from scratch: title page, executive summary, market sizing, CAGR analysis, competitive landscape, key players, drivers and trends, strategic and financial transactions, and company profiles of potential targets or buyers.

He delivered a full investor-ready deck within a week of receiving each brief, then walked the managing director through it on a weekly call, fielding questions on methodology, slide rationale, and investment angle.

Feedback consistently pushed him to sharpen the investment narrative further, moving beyond presenting facts toward making the case for investor attention. He iterated based on that feedback and redelivered. The finalized reports went to investors across the US and Europe to inform allocation decisions.
