The Story
As a research intern at IIM Kozhikode, Athul conducted a primary research study on the adoption of digital payment platforms among small restaurants and dhabas. The study required him to design and personally conduct field surveys with small business owners, gathering qualitative and quantitative data on how and why they adopted or resisted payment platforms.
He then applied machine learning techniques to the survey data to draw structured insights from what was otherwise unstructured field evidence. The project gave him early exposure to the full arc of primary research: designing the instrument, collecting data in the field, and translating raw responses into analytical conclusions.
