The Story
Ashlesha took on the semiconductor sector analysis at TresVista as part of a small team, with full ownership of the research layer. The client was a private equity firm with limited prior exposure to the sector, and the brief required building understanding from scratch.
She began by mapping the available secondary sources across the web, cross-checking market sizing figures across multiple reports to identify inconsistencies. Where one report claimed a market of a hundred billion dollars and another claimed six hundred billion for the same industry, she flagged the outlier and excluded it. Her approach was to anchor the entire report to a single credible primary source for each data point, ensuring internal consistency across the final output.
The research covered the full landscape: product definitions, how the technology worked, market sizing, major competitors, regulatory environment, and emerging trends. She organized her findings into structured points and worked closely with the team member responsible for the final presentation to ensure nothing was lost in translation.
Flagging What the Brief Missed
During the research process, Ashlesha identified areas the original framework had not accounted for, including new innovations in the sector. Rather than leaving them out, she escalated to her manager with a source-backed case for including them, and the team made the call together on what to add.
The final report was delivered to the PE client, who confirmed it was useful and drew heavily on the findings for their own analysis. Ashlesha and the team were not involved in the downstream investment process, but the client's response confirmed the research held up.
