Akshay developed an independent investment thesis on thermonuclear energy starting in late 2023, driven by his electrical engineering background and a growing curiosity about how rising energy demand from AI, EV adoption, and industrialization would be met.
He began by mapping the Indian energy demand picture: analyzing the current energy mix, benchmarking it against countries that had already navigated similar demand transitions, and tracking how energy targets had been met across different markets. This led him to a view that nuclear power, specifically thermonuclear energy, was the most credible path for India given the constraints on coal-based thermal energy and the limitations of renewables at scale.
From there, he mapped the full value chain of thermonuclear plant development in India: identifying the capital-intensive components, the existing manufacturers of components for India's current nuclear plants, and the infrastructure companies that would be positioned to benefit from new plant development. He cross-referenced this against government announcements and tracked the legislative signals around privatization of the nuclear sector.
He identified a set of publicly listed companies that he assessed as direct beneficiaries of the trend and invested his own capital in these positions. By the time legislation moved and government announcements followed, several of the companies he had identified had seen meaningful increases in their stock value and contract pipeline.
