The Story
Ajay joined Qubit Capital as a Research Analyst, working directly with his manager as a two-person investment research function inside the firm. The mandate was to support early-stage founders in identifying and reaching the right investors, from initial mapping through to booking the first investor call.
His core responsibility was investor mapping: taking a founder's deal parameters and translating them into a targeted outreach list. When a founder came in looking for $500K for a pre-seed fintech B2B payments company based in the US, Ajay would run that through PitchBook, Tracxn, and VCC Edge, filtering by check size, sector, stage, geography, and recent investment activity. He prioritized investors who had recently backed companies in the same vertical, reasoning that recency of investment in a category was a stronger signal of active interest than historical portfolio alone.
Beyond the database work, Ajay also built financial models for founders from scratch and refined existing ones. He estimated TAM, SAM, and SOM figures for the sectors founders were operating in, and used those market estimates as inputs into valuation work. He supported the full fundraising cycle, from financial model to pitch deck to term sheet negotiation support, working alongside his manager on each engagement.
Across his time at Qubit Capital, he worked with founders across fintech, edtech, consumer tech, and D2C sectors, building familiarity with how investor appetite varied by sector and stage.
