Healthcare Benchmarking: Expert Interviews Across Five Countries

During her internship at Deloitte, Aditi joined a project benchmarking healthcare industry structures across five countries. Each team member owned one country end to end. Her mandate was to build a complete picture of how her assigned country's healthcare system was structured: the split between government and private sector, how manufacturers and distributors related to each other, what price controls existed, and how accessibility and affordability worked in practice.

Secondary research got her most of the way there, but certain operational nuances could not be answered from published sources: the exact manufacturer-distributor dynamics, how subsidy decisions were made, and the practical constraints on pricing. These gaps drove the agenda for an expert interview she conducted with a healthcare industry specialist from that country.

The interview was structured around what secondary research had left unresolved. She came in with specific questions about the mechanics of the system, not a general conversation, and used the answers to complete the country profile.

The final output was a structured country benchmarking deck that fed into the broader five-country comparison. The team used the benchmarking findings to identify which countries offered the most relevant models for the client's situation, with her country and two others serving as target-state references for what a well-functioning system could look like.
