The Story

At YRAL, a Web3 creator platform, Aakash worked as a Strategy and Research Intern with a focus on competitive analysis. His primary task was to benchmark competitors across parameters including user acquisition mechanisms, engagement features, creator incentives, and retention strategies.

The work was qualitative and competitive rather than product analytics. He mapped how platforms in the creator economy were acquiring and retaining users, with particular attention to the role of token-based and monetary incentives. A pattern emerged: platforms offering strong financial incentives could drive rapid initial signups, but many struggled to sustain engagement over time. The internal discussion at YRAL consistently returned to retention rather than acquisition as the harder and more important problem.

This observation, combined with broader reading across consumer tech, fintech, and quick commerce, led Aakash to form an independent market view: in India's consumer internet market, convenience alone is no longer a durable differentiator. Retention depends on trust, habit, and personalized value. Companies investing in product experience and community are better positioned for long-term durability than those relying primarily on discounts and acquisition campaigns.
